Animal welfare regulations
The Australian dairy industry supports the vision of the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy that:
“The welfare of all animals in Australia is promoted and protected by the development and adoption of sound animal welfare standards and practices.”
Australian government regulations ensure that farmers deliver an acceptable standard of care for their animals. State and territory government animal welfare units manage these regulations.
An information sheet is available on relevant legislation and codes of practice in Australia for animal welfare.

Codes of practice for the welfare of animals (including for cattle and land transport) are being reviewed with input from industry to produce Australian Standards and Guidelines for the Welfare of Animals. More information on this process is available at the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy website.
